These three fair trade bags are made from recycled foil juice pouches scattered as trash throughout the cities and towns in the Philippines. The Peoples Recovery Empowerment and Development Assistance Foundation (PREDA) found a way to turn trash into treasure! PREDA is a not-for-profit organization working on a national and international level for human rights, especially the rights of women and children. Located in the Philippines, PREDA facilitates the international marketing and sales of handcrafted items that range from recycled juice bag totes to brush animals made from the buri palm, as well as food items such as dried fruit and juices.
The juice pouch bag project has greatly reduced the amounts of non-biodegradable garbage in the cities of the Philippines. Just as important is the sustainable income this project provides for so many people in the production chain, from collection - to cleaning - to sewing - to selling. That's what fair trade is all about.
